Biodigester

Our research and education facilities are supported by municipal infrastructure that is among the best across the globe.

The Solid Waste Research & Development Facility is a full-scale municipal operation forms a dynamic “living laboratory” and makes the site an ideal centre for applied research and training.
The Wastewater Research & Training Centre  is a natural treatment facility, harnessing wastewater's natural properties to remove constituents.

“These facilities offer researchers a unique opportunity to do cutting-edge work in a real world environment. From an education and training perspective, there are few places that can match the variety of technologies that can be seen and studied in such a compact area.”

Dr. Jerry Leonard, EWMCE Executive Manager

The Edmonton Waste Management Centre of Excellence incorporates the resources and facilities of all of its members. This approach provides the Centre with access to diverse research and educational sites. Combined Centre and member facilities represent almost $1 billion in assets. Collectively, they offer a tremendous framework for advancing waste management practices.
