Gold bar Cnetre of excellence

Located within the Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), this facility offers unparalleled opportunities for research and training in advanced biological wastewater treatment. The Gold Bar WWTP has long prided itself as a “natural treatment facility,” harnessing wastewater's natural properties to remove constituents. By combining natural processes with groundbreaking technologies, Gold Bar has become one of North America’s most advanced and progressive wastewater treatment facilities.

Wastewater R&D and Education Capabilities

Research Wing
This 350-square-metre space provides access to various process feeds from the treatment plant as well as raw river water. It houses a Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) Pilot Plant, and is fully serviced to accommodate mobile pilot plants. The pilot-scale BNR plant contains two parallel process units that allow researchers to mimic actual plant operations and compare various treatment processes. Researchers also have access to a Hollow Fibre Membrane Pilot Plant—a demonstration-scale facility assessing the filtration of effluent using a hollow fibre membrane ultrafiltration system
