Wastewater Operator Training Print E-mail

The Edmonton Waste Management Centre of Excellence, in partnership with the Alberta Water and Wastewater Operators Association and the City of Edmonton, offers practical courses for wastewater operations personnel as part of the Advanced Wastewater Training Modules (AWTM) Series. The courses focus on leading-edge wastewater treatment processes, and combine theoretical study with real-life examples.

Environmental Compliance
1 Day Course - .6 CEU’s

Edmonton and Calgary Dates

June 10, 2010 – Edmonton
June 28, 2010 – Calgary

The Environmental Compliance course is an overview that will help operators to better understand their responsibilities as outlined in Alberta Environment’s Approvals or Code of Practice documents.  Participants will be actively engaged in understanding not only the legislative framework that guides their work but the role that Alberta Environment plays in supporting operators in the protection of the public and our environment.

Note: EPCOR Gold Bar WWTP is a secured site.  Buses will be waiting at the SE security entrance at 7:45 to shuttle to the centre. Please allow time for this process.   MAP

Dissolved Air Flotation
2 day course
1.2 CEU’s

Date: June 21 & 22, 2010
Time: 8:30 am – 4:00 pm (each day)
Lunch Provided
Note: Registration and coffee will take place between 8:00 am – 8:30 am on the first day

Location:
Wastewater Research & Training Centre
EPCOR Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant
10977 – 50 Street, Edmonton, Alberta

About the Course:
Use of dissolved air flotation (DAF) is increasing in wastewater treatment. As a solids separation process, DAF is an extremely fast and efficient way of capturing solids when compared to traditional sedimentation processes such as gravity thickening.
Operators who understand the concepts behind how a DAF works are better equipped to operate and maintain a DAF system efficiently. Operating a DAF system at its peak potential can substantially reduce costs related to the solids separation process. It can also produce cleaner effluent and thicker solids, which means less processing is required downstream.

Courses provide operators with the Continuing Education Units (CEUs) needed to retain their certification, and help ensure that municipalities across Alberta can comply with their operating approvals.

Currently, three modules are available on the Advanced Membrane Treatment Course, Biological Nutrient Removal Course, and Dissolved Air Flotation Course.
